On the Oregon Coast we are fortunate to have Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge to aid in protecting our valuable natural resources and wildlife. Here in Bandon and the surrounding areas we have many ways to celebrate our refuge system!
This Saturday marks the 113th anniversary of the Antiquities Act which allowed for the establishment of national monuments to protect resources of “historic or scientific interest.” The first true national wildlife refuges of the sea were created in 2006 when President George W. Bush created the first marine national monument and followed it up in 2009 with more. ~ June 2019 Refuge Watch, National Wildlife Association Website
